Retail sales data give fillip
Truworths International climbed the most in six weeks yesterday, leading a gain in consumer shares, after data showed South Africa’s retail sales growth accelerated to 6.8 percent in March. Truworths closed 3.04 percent higher at R83, its biggest gain since April 2. The FTSE/JSE Africa general retailers index climbed 1 percent to 89.67 points. Annual retail sales growth rose from a revised 6.7 percent a month earlier. The median estimate of economists was for annual growth of 6.6 percent. – Bloomberg
